Holidays are approaching and while some are dreaming about relaxing in the sun, many people
00:07
won't be able to get away.
00:09
An EU report has shown that in 2022, 40 million European workers were not able to spend a
00:15
week away from home.
00:17
And that number is increasing, with the cost of going abroad being one of the reasons.
00:23
The cost of living is never decreasing, it's always increasing, so the prices are always
00:28
higher.
00:29
The reason, of course, is the global economy and the holiday budget is still a famous budget.
00:38
You still have to count the minimum for a person, 1,500, 2,000 euros, so if you are
00:43
at 3, 4, it's a fast figure.
00:48
Working conditions can also be to blame.
00:52
I'm currently looking for a job, so I chose to stay here and look for a job, and not go
00:57
on holiday.
00:58
Compared to 2023, 2 million more people will have to stay at home this year, making up
01:04
around 14.6% of EU citizens.
01:08
And what's shocking is, it used to be the case that working in Europe meant you could
01:13
afford a holiday.
01:14
Five days, we're talking a week away, either in your own country or in another country.
01:20
According to the European Trade Union Confederation, holidays are key to avoid discrimination
01:25
towards children, but are also important for workers.
01:29
It's also unsafe for workers, so workers need to have time to recuperate.
01:34
That is seriously important for addressing burnout and making sure that you come back
01:39
to work restored and refreshed.
01:42
Around 30% of people in Romania, Cyprus and Greece are not able to afford a week away
01:48
from home.
