Education Secretary Sonny Angara gets a glimpse of the distressing situation in schools when it rains.
00:07
On Monday, July 29, he was supposed to visit Binyan Elementary School in Laguna,
00:12
but classes were suspended after rain brought more floods early Monday.
00:16
In Santa Mesa, Manila, El Pedio Quirino High School was able to welcome back students,
00:20
but some textbooks and other materials had to be dried following the flooding.
00:24
Still, Angara says the school opening was so far so good.
00:28
The Education Department postponed the opening of the academic year 2024-2025
00:33
in at least 979 schools due to severe flooding last week.
00:38
Angara earlier thumbed down proposals for a blanket suspension
00:41
that would cover all 45,000 public schools in the country.
00:45
Latest DepEd data shows over 20.5 million students have enrolled so far.
00:50
Students can still enroll until September.
