And I think, Joe, the distinction was important because that area you circled in the Appalachians,
00:06
they missed out on a lot of the heavier rain, didn't they?
00:08
Yeah, the eastern Carolinas got quite a bit burny and it was also in the last couple of days some
00:12
very heavy rain for parts of south and east Texas. So that was one of the forecasts that really worked
00:17
out fairly well. What about the coming week? What are the things that we're most interested
00:21
or most concerned about weather-wise? Well, these are the three things to know about.
00:24
Severe weather threat's going to rear its ugly head, I think, from the Midwest to the Ohio Valley
00:28
on at least a couple of occasions. We'll explain how and why in a moment.
00:32
More heat for the Rockies. Looks like the upper level ridge reestablishes itself and the heat's
00:36
going to build as the week progresses. And we're going to keep an eye on the tropics
00:40
and we'll explain that, too. Yeah, we have that tropical wave,
00:44
Joe, that's moving offshore. And the concern we have, this is going to be tracking eastward
00:50
over the next week to 10 days. It's got some hurdles to clear. If it clears those hurdles,
00:57
then we could be looking at something a week from now. But let's take it one step at a time.
01:01
Yeah, I mean, the first hurdle is obviously the dry Saharan dust, the air that is going to choke
01:06
its development for the next several days. So the first part of next week is it goes westward at a
01:11
pretty good speed. There's going to be much to do about nothing with the system. It's later in the
01:16
week. We get to Wednesday and Thursday as it gets closer to the Leeward Islands and beyond. That's
01:21
where some of that dust will finally start to move away from it. And the upper level conditions
01:25
become more favorable for development. But there's still, you know, it's a low percentage
01:30
chance even at that point in time. All right, Joe, let's talk about the pattern across the
01:34
country next week. Yeah, next week, I think the big upper level ridge is going to reestablish
01:38
itself with time toward the Four Corners area. Early in the week, you're going to have some
01:42
relatively cool air in the west and there may be some gusty winds are going to help to
01:48
expand these fires. Unfortunately, that's that's the bad news. But over the top of this ridge,
01:52
one disturbance and another disturbance will come through from the north and west.
01:56
I think one day in this area, you're at a risk for some severe weather. Then there may be another
02:00
one Wednesday night into Thursday, and some of that moisture will work its way into the eastern
02:04
seaboard with time. Here's the concern that we're talking about. Again, a couple of rounds of
02:08
thunderstorms with them, a threat for damaging winds, flash flooding, even a tornado risk. And
02:13
that extends really from the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota, even as far south as, say,
02:17
St. Louis and Cape Girardeau. Action with a long range expert, Joe Lumberg. Joe, thanks for joining
02:22
us.
