00:00gentlemen all with me because we're going to be doing something real fantastic.

00:03It's called the Fatherhood Conference. And check this out, from the streets to the boardroom,

00:09and Assemblyman Mike Gibson of District 65 has put all this together. How are you doing, Mr. Gibson?

00:18I am blessed in spite of me. So thank you very much, Greg. Good to see you again.

00:22Great. Tell us about this. I mean, let me just say out front, I'm excited to be a part of it.

00:29Okay. I'm going to be doing something there. I don't know what you got me doing,

00:32but I'm excited, man. Tell us about this. Well, first of all, thank you very much for

00:37the coverage and appreciate your listening audience. We have come up with this Fatherhood

00:43Conference. And from, as you said, from the streets to the boardroom, we believe that iron

00:50sharpens iron. And so we will be gathering at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills

00:56on Saturday, August the 10th at 8 a.m. Saturday, August the 10th at 8 a.m. at Cal State University,

01:04Dominguez Hills, located at 1000 East Victoria Street in the beautiful city of Carson, California.

01:10500 fathers, whether you're a brand new father or you've been a father for a long time,

01:15iron sharpens iron. We're coming together. And we're, one, we'll start with an expungement

01:23clinic. So fathers who have stuff on their records, we want to try to see if we can get

01:27that stuff expunged. We will have resource, a resource spare, and we'll also have employers

01:33there who will want to take applications, interview, and possibly hire individuals right

01:39there on the spot. And then we'll have swag and we'll give away things that fathers would need.

01:44And so then we'll be joined into the main locker student union hall at Cal State Dominguez.

01:53We will gather at 9 a.m. We would come together with inspirational keynote speaker,

01:58we'll have information that will be given, and then we'll be dispersed into various classrooms

02:04talking about various topics, things that fathers go through. And sometimes we go through those

02:10things alone, but it's good to know that another brother has gone through the same thing that you

02:15are going through. And the key operative word in there is going through, because you're not going

02:20to stay in the situation, you're coming out. And so we want to come and encourage and inspire

02:25our fathers. We want to network with individuals. We want to hear their stories. We also want to

02:31hear how we can be a stronger father to our children, to our community. Because I believe

02:37if we have a stronger, a strong father in a household, then we have a strong community.

02:42If we have a strong community, we have a strong city. If we have a strong city,

02:45we have a strong county, we have a strong state, and so forth. And so we're coming together

02:50with Project Fatherhood, with Children's Institute, with the Father Initiative, with First 5 LA,

02:57and the list goes on and on with so many collaborative individuals coming together

03:03on Saturday, August the 10th at 8 a.m. to be part of what's getting ready to take place.

03:09And so I'm excited because, one, this is our first time. We've done conferences for young

03:15girls. We've done conferences for young boys. We have done conferences for our ladies. And so

03:21we're coming together to, one, build up fathers and reconnect fathers with their children if

03:27possible. And if they're having issues or not paying child support, we want to find out and

03:32provide information there. And also, we have to also register fathers to vote because we have a

03:38very important election coming up on November the 5th. We want everybody to be counted as well.

03:43So that's what's taking place on August the 10th at Cal State University Dominguez Hills

03:49at 8 a.m. in the morning until 3 o'clock p.m. in the afternoon. You don't want to miss it.

03:54It's going to be an exciting and life transformation event where iron sharpens

03:59irons from the streets to the boardroom. And we want to make sure that men who was in the streets

04:05and now they headed to the boardroom come and tell their stories how they made it over.

04:10You know, I was going to add something to this, but you said it all.

04:13I mean, it's all good, man. I'm excited. I'm a grandfather, so I guess I'll fit in. I don't know.

04:19You know, I mean, you being a grandfather, you can talk to other young cats who are

04:26first fathers, first-time fathers, talking about even as a grandfather being able to inspire them.

04:32We can only we can share what we've gone through and experienced our life journey

04:37because we've lived it as fathers. And something that has helped us and strengthened us on our

04:42journey as a father can strengthen and help some other young father or some other father

04:47who's struggling with just life challenges. And that's what I mean by iron sharpens iron,

04:53coming together, being inspired, being motivated, finding our self-worth and our purpose in life

05:00and making sure even though you may not be with the mother, even though you may not be with the

05:04mother, your obligation is still to the children and being there in that space and getting the

05:10support and the village coming together to build you up as a father, that's important.

05:15And if we can help one person, then this conference is a success already.
