00:10we're going to be doing something real fantastic.

00:12It's called the Fatherhood Conference.

00:15And check this out.

00:16From the streets to the boardroom, and Assemblyman Mike Gibson of District 65 has put all this

00:24together.

00:25How are you doing, Mr. Gibson?

00:27I am blessed in spite of me.

00:28So thank you very much, Greg.

00:32Tell us about this.

00:33This is exciting.

00:34I mean, let me just say out front, I'm excited to be a part of it.

00:39I'm going to be doing something there.

00:40I don't know what you got me doing, but I'm excited, man.

00:43Tell us about this.

00:44Well, first of all, thank you very much for the coverage and appreciate your listening

00:48audience.

00:50We have come up with this Fatherhood Conference.

00:54And from, as you said, from the streets to the boardroom, we believe that iron sharpens

00:59iron.

01:01And so we will be gathering at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills on Saturday, August the 10th

01:07at 8 a.m.

01:09Saturday, August the 10th at 8 a.m. at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, located

01:14at 1000 East Victoria Street in the beautiful city of Carson, California.

01:20500 fathers, whether you're a brand new father or you've been a father for a long time, iron

01:24sharpens iron.

01:25We're coming together and we're one which will start with a a expungement clinic.

01:33So fathers, we have stuff on their records.

01:35We want to try to see if we can get that stuff expunged.

01:38We will have a resource, a resource fair, and we also will have employers there who

01:43will want to take applications, interview and possibly hire individuals right there

01:48on the spot.

01:49And then we'll have swag and we'll give away things that fathers would need.

01:54And so then we'll be joined into the main Locker Student Union Hall at Cal State, Dominguez.

02:02We will gather at 9 a.m., we would come together with inspirational keynote speaker, we'll

02:07have information that will be given, and then we'll be dispersed into various classrooms

02:13talking about various, various topics, things that fathers go through.

02:18And sometimes we go through those things alone, but it's good to know that another

02:21brother has gone through the same thing that you are going through.

02:25And the key operative word in there is going through, because you're not going to stay

02:29in the situation, you're coming out.

02:31And so we want to come and encourage and inspire our fathers.

02:35We want to network with individuals.

02:38We want to hear their stories, but we also want to hear how we can be a stronger father

02:43to our children, to our community.

02:45Because I believe if we have a stronger, a strong father in a household, then we have

02:50a strong community.

02:51If we have a strong community, we have a strong city.

02:53If we have a strong city, we have a strong county, we have a strong state, and so forth.

02:57And so we're coming together with Project Fatherhood, with Children's Institute, with

03:03the Father Initiative, with First 5 LA, and the list goes on and on with so many collaborative

03:09individuals coming together on Saturday, August the 10th at 8 a.m. to be part of what's

03:17getting ready to take place.

03:18And so I'm excited because, one, this is our first time.

03:22We've done conferences for young girls.

03:25We've done conferences for young boys.

03:27We have done conferences for our ladies.

03:30And so we're coming together to, one, build up fathers and reconnect fathers with their

03:35children if possible.

03:37And if they're having issues or not paying child support, we want to find out and provide

03:41information there.

03:43And also, we have to also register fathers to vote because we have a very important election

03:48coming up on November the 5th.

03:49We want everybody to be counted as well.

03:52So that's what's taking place on August the 10th at Cal State University Dominguez Hills

03:57at 8 a.m. in the morning until 3 o'clock p.m. in the afternoon.

04:01You don't want to miss it.

04:03It's going to be an exciting and life-transformation event where iron sharpens irons, from the

04:09streets to the boardroom.

04:11And we want to make sure that men who was in the streets and now they're headed to the

04:15boardroom come and tell their stories how they made it over.

04:19You know, I was going to add something to this, but you said it all.

04:22I mean, it's all good, man.

04:24I'm excited.

04:25I'm a grandfather, so I guess I'll fit in.

04:27I don't know.

04:29No, I mean, you being a grandfather, you can talk to other young cats who are first fathers,

04:36first-time fathers, talking about even as a grandfather, being able to inspire them.

04:41We can only, we can share what we've gone through and experienced our life journey because

04:46we've lived it as fathers and something that has helped us and strengthened us on our journey

04:52as a father can strengthen and help some other young father or some other father who's struggling

04:57with just life challenges.

04:59And that's what I mean by iron sharpens iron, coming together, being inspired, being motivated,

05:06finding our self-worth and our purpose in life and making sure, even though you may

05:10not be with a mother, even though you may not be with a mother, your obligation is still

05:15to the children and being there in that space and getting the support and the village coming

05:21together to build you up as a father.

05:23That's important.

05:24And if we can help one person, then this conference is a success already.
