Disney 80s and 90s Celebration and Concert is a world premiere
00:03
with the iconic music from these incredible decades.
00:06
And it's coming to the Hollywood Bowl July 19th and 20th.
00:11
We are so lucky today to have with us Corbin Bleu.
00:14
He has been in everything you have seen him
00:17
in High School Musical, Broadway's Kiss Me Kate,
00:20
Disney's Jump In, In the Heights, Godspell, Holiday Inn,
00:24
you name it, Corbin, you have been there.
00:26
So you've got to tell us more about this special production.
00:30
And your part in it.
00:32
This is a celebration of 80s and 90s Disney music,
00:37
which to me is the golden era of Disney music.
00:41
I mean, it's Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid,
00:46
which of course, you know, all of the Howard Ashman
00:48
and Alan Menken era, Hercules, Toy Story,
00:52
A Goofy Movie, Pocahontas, the list goes on and on.
00:55
Basically every single amazing Disney movie
00:59
that we grew up with, we are putting it on in concert
01:03
with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performed
01:06
all by Broadway performers, television performers,
01:09
as well as animation performers.
01:12
So we have some of the original animated voices
01:15
like Jodie Benson, who was the original
01:18
Little Mermaid voice of Ariel.
01:21
She is actually doing this concert
01:23
and we're going to be able to hear her perform
01:25
part of your world.
01:26
Oh, that's so cool.
01:27
And what I'm excited about, the official voice of Goofy.
01:32
Yeah, Bill Farmer, Disney legend.
01:36
I'm going to get to perform alongside Bill Farmer.
01:39
It is truly, this concert is a dream come true.
01:42
I'm living out all of my childhood fantasies
01:47
and getting to not only perform alongside these legends,
01:50
but to perform this beautiful music
01:52
that really had such an impact on my childhood,
01:55
on so many childhoods.
01:57
And I know just overall it's going to be a night
02:01
that I feel like we're all going to just walk away
02:04
feeling like we're kids again.
02:07
And you mentioned the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
02:10
They are incredible, of course.
02:11
And Sarah Hicks is conducting.
02:13
So right there, that's exciting.
02:15
Tell us about the gospel ensemble.
02:18
Yeah, so we have, they're called the DC6.
02:21
There's more than six of them.
02:22
They're just called the DC6.
02:24
But we do have a gospel choir
02:27
that is backing us up throughout the entire performance,
02:31
which is really going to come in handy,
02:32
especially during all of the Hercules songs.
02:37
And we have all of the gospel choir that gets done.
02:42
And then we have an entire ensemble of dancers,
02:45
all Broadway dancers.
02:48
Wow.
02:49
Yeah, it truly is such a stellar cast of performers.
02:55
All people just that are masters of their craft.
02:59
And again, also all grew up with this.
03:02
And so not only are they incredible at what they do,
03:06
but everyone is going into this
03:08
with a love and passion for this music.
03:11
Have most of them performed on the Hollywood Bowl stage?
03:15
As far as everyone within our show, I'm not sure.
03:20
I have.
03:21
I actually did Hairspray at the Hollywood Bowl,
03:24
and I also did Mamma Mia at the Hollywood Bowl.
03:27
Yeah, so this will be my third time performing there.
03:30
I'm so excited.
03:31
And the previous two times I was doing a show
03:34
where I'm playing a character.
03:36
So I'm so excited to be able to go
03:38
and actually just do a concert at the Bowl.
03:41
Right, that's gonna be incredible.
03:43
Yeah, I cannot wait.
03:46
And I heard there's some new arrangements
03:48
of some of the classics.
03:50
Yeah, a lot of the music has been rearranged.
03:54
Some of the music arranged for the first time.
03:58
Yeah, I mean, A Goofy Movie is a great example.
04:03
When the movie first came out,
04:06
I don't think they knew what a cult following it would have,
04:10
what a sensation it was.
04:11
So I think most of that music was just like left
04:14
on the stands in the recording booth.
04:16
So there's like no archive of that music.
04:20
So they are completely rearranging
04:23
these charts from scratch.
04:26
Okay.
04:27
It's quite a feat.
04:29
And it's incredible that it's being done for this concert.
04:34
So the attire, this is very fun.
04:36
You're supposed to come dressed in your favorite
04:38
Disney garb or character.
04:41
What's the story?
04:42
Oh, well, I mean, it's the Hollywood Bowl,
04:45
which if anybody who hasn't been to the Hollywood Bowl
04:48
in itself as an experience, it's such a magical venue.
04:53
But just as a night out to go listen to Disney music,
04:56
we're encouraging people come dressed up
04:59
as your favorite Disney character if you want.
05:01
It's just a beautiful evening under the stars.
05:04
It's all outdoors.
05:06
And it's one of the most iconic venues
05:10
that has hosted some of the most incredible stars
05:15
and performers of our lifetime.
05:19
And I love that pretty much any generation
05:22
is going to have fun there.
05:24
I mean, the millennials can relive their VHS tape glory days.
05:28
Seniors are going to know the music.
05:30
A whole family of little kids can wear
05:32
their princess dresses and come.
05:33
And pretty much any age group would love it.
05:36
It'd be a good date night, too, don't you think?
05:38
Absolutely.
05:38
Absolutely.
05:39
I mean, it's Disney.
05:42
You can't go wrong.
05:44
I mean, and specifically this era,
05:49
the 80s and 90s, to me, I feel like I still, to this day,
05:55
I love going to see a new Disney animated film.
05:59
But there is something about this particular set
06:03
of films during these particular decades
06:07
that when I go back and watch them,
06:09
I don't think it's just nostalgia.
06:11
I really do think that there is something to behold.
06:15
There's something special about these films.
06:17
It is.
06:19
I think these movies, they're like woven
06:21
into the fabric of our lives, which
06:23
sounds very crazy and trite.
06:25
But I really think they are.
06:26
They're just part of who we are, especially
06:29
if you grew up here going to Disneyland and watching.
06:32
You don't have to have.
06:33
But also, I love that the tickets are affordable.
06:36
They start at $15, which is unheard of in LA anywhere.
06:41
And for a show like this, where you get the Hollywood
06:45
Orchestra, Sarah conducting, you guys from Broadway,
06:50
the dancers, the gospel, my goodness.
06:53
I mean, what more?
06:55
The only thing I would say to people
06:57
is last year sold out, the 100 years of Disney.
07:01
Yes, last year.
07:04
And it's the same producers and writers.
07:07
Last year, they did 100 years of Disney as a celebration.
07:11
And this time, they're focusing specifically
07:13
on 80s and 90s.
07:13
But yeah, that show completely sold out last year.
07:16
And it was a major success.
07:18
And everyone loved it.
07:20
So again, it's the same group of people
07:22
that's bringing you this one.
07:23
So it's going to be just as fantastic.
07:26
So we recommend that you hurry up and get your tickets.
07:29
And we get to hear stories from behind the scenes.
07:33
And what's up on the screens as we're listening?
07:36
Yeah, so well, throughout the show, it is a concert.
07:40
And as we said, we do have a lot of the original Disney
07:44
legends.
07:44
So we're going to get to hear stories from their time
07:48
recording this incredible music.
07:50
And then throughout the performance,
07:52
we're using the legendary Hollywood Bowl screens
07:57
that is going to be playing a lot of the animated films
08:00
and clips throughout the performances.
08:03
Wow.
08:04
That's going to be so much fun.
08:05
And if you want to get tickets, you go to hollywoodbowl.com.
08:10
Anything else you want to add, Carbon?
08:13
I mean, I cannot express enough how excited I am for this night.
08:20
Anyone that I have told about it is super excited about it.
08:25
It's just going to be such a beautiful celebration.
08:27
Who doesn't love Disney and this particular music?
08:32
And it's going to be performed so well.
08:35
So if you want to enjoy a night for the summer,
08:41
come on to the Hollywood Bowl.
08:43
Last thing, do you have a favorite Disney movie?
08:48
You know, that's always a difficult one for me,
08:50
especially given this particular era.
08:53
Beauty and the Beast has always been up there, number one for me.
08:59
And of course, I am going to be singing a couple of songs
09:03
from Beauty and the Beast.
09:05
But there are a number of other ones.
09:07
I mean, Nightmare Before Christmas had a huge impact on me.
09:12
And we actually do have a little bit of a Nightmare Before Christmas section in this.
09:17
Hercules was always a big one for me.
09:19
Of course, we have a Hercules moment.
09:21
And so it's tough when you have all of the best of the best
09:27
wind up one after another.
09:28
Yeah, exactly.
09:29
Well, your enthusiasm is catching.
09:31
And I'm sure anyone watching this is going to want to go see you
09:35
and everybody else along with you and hear this iconic music.
09:39
What a fun night it's going to be.
09:40
Again, for tickets, hollywoodbowl.com.
09:42
And thank you so much, Corbin Bleu, for joining us today.
09:46
We appreciate you.
09:48
Thanks for having me.
09:49
Take care.
09:50
You too.
09:51
And have fun.
