What’s going wrong with our high streets?

We ask the people of Cardiff about the problems facing our local high streets, with online and out of town shopping having a massive impact, as well as transport and other local competition.

00:00My thinking is, yeah, I think that it's, I think it would be a good idea now for us to turn that

00:05around and try and get cities buoyant with people buying things, not necessarily driving around,

00:16which I think has been the way it's been, hasn't it really?

00:19No, I think the government has affected the high street by all the break,

00:22pedestrian groups that the old people can't get in, and all the parking, and all the roads.

00:28Well, I'm from Llanelli area, and I've lived there for 30 years, and just seen how it's

00:33deteriorated because of all the quirky small shops that have been taken away,

00:37and everyone, you know, is all driven to go to these big units in Trostra. And yeah,

00:43it's affected the town dramatically, and it's sad. Yeah, really sad.

00:49I think Cardiff is what affects Newport, but overall, at the top of the chain,

00:54like Luke said, Amsterdam is what affects everything else.
