00:00 The last few years have seen Cardiff's place as a gig city grow tremendously. Massive sellout
00:09 shows like Coldplay, Harry Styles and Beyonce all took place in the Principality Stadium
00:14 just behind me in the last few years. And over the last five years or so, we've had
00:17 Ed Sheeran, Rolling Stones and a joint show with Welsh icon Stereophonics, Tom Jones and
00:22 Catfish and the Bottlemen. There's been no let up in massive shows and 2024 is going
00:26 to be exactly the same, arguably even bigger, with possibly the biggest star on the planet
00:31 coming to this very stadium behind me in June. The jewel of the crown at Cardiff Summer Gigs
00:35 is Taylor Swift's brings her Eras Tour to the Welsh capital. The tour is already the
00:41 biggest in history with over 160 shows in total. It's somewhere close to halfway done,
00:46 already racking up a breathtaking billion dollars. Yes, that's billion with a B already.
00:51 The Time Person of the Year, whose stardom has grown exponentially in recent years, might
00:55 be the biggest ever show to take place in Wales. Thousands of Swifties from all across
01:00 the planet will be visiting Cardiff when she comes here. The city will be overrun. We saw
01:04 what happened when the WWE came to Cardiff in 2022 and the scale of the takeover of the
01:08 city. And we will definitely be seeing a bigger impact in the days leading up to Taylor Swift's
01:13 show on the 18th of June. Cardiff will be all Taylor Swift when she comes to town. In
01:19 three straight weeks, we've got Pink with her Summer Carnival on June 11th, followed
01:23 by Taylor Swift. And then a week later, the Foo Fighters will visit Cardiff on the 25th
01:27 of June, and what will be a crazy few weeks for the city. Then the Piano Man himself plays
01:32 a show when Billy Joel visits on August 9th. This year, we'll be seeing a massive ramp
01:37 up of gigs in a rather unusual venue here in Cardiff Castle. The former Roman Fortress
01:42 has hosted a number of gigs in the past, but 2024 will see it as one of the main venues
01:46 across Cardiff. A summer schedule of 90s icons Weezer with Smash and Pumpkins, Crowded House,
01:53 the one and only Avril Lavigne making a shock show announcement for the castle, and then
01:58 there'll be the home favourite Manic Street Preachers performing two shows in July, followed
02:03 by JLS, Rick Astley with a second show in the city, and then Noel Gallagher's High Flying
02:07 Birds and Madness come into town. Cardiff has plenty of venues aside from a massive
02:13 Principality Stadium. The Utility Arena here behind me has been a massive part of gigs
02:17 in Cardiff, and I'm sure many of us have been to plenty over the years. Doesn't look like
02:21 it's going to change any time soon, with plenty of internationally renowned artists performing
02:26 as a formerly known CIA. 30 Seconds to Mars, James, Razorlight, Paloma Faith, Desk Camp
02:32 for Cutie and the Postal Service all make up an impressive summer line-up for the venue,
02:37 with more later on in the year in the shape of Motown Legends, The Four Tops and Martha
02:40 Reeves and the Vandellas. The Utility Arena is always a winner for Cardiff, and 2024 looks
02:47 to be another great year. What a year of music for our city, and if you're an international
02:53 megastar looking for tour venues, then you know that Cardiff is definitely the place
02:57 to be.
