00:00France's National Assembly is finally taking shape after key committee roles were appointed

00:06For Eric Coquerel, the re-elected chairman of the Assembly's Finance Committee, it's

00:11an opportunity that extends beyond administrative duties.

00:15I'll be a president of the opposition and I'll defend the program of the group that

00:22backed me, the New Popular Front, before the ministers who will come to face me.

00:30He was appointed despite some calls from centrists to block candidates from his party, France

00:34Unbowed, and was one of many New Popular Front candidates to take the top jobs.

00:39The left-wing alliance will hold two out of six vice-president posts, one out of three

00:44financial administrators and nine out of twelve secretaries.

00:48The far-right National Rally Party, on the other hand, missed out entirely, despite having

00:53the most seats in the government from a single party.

00:58I believe that democracy means respecting voters.

01:01When nearly 11 million voters are treated as pariahs, are excluded from any position

01:06within this institution in violation of the rules of the National Assembly, I'm not disappointed,

01:35Yael Bourbon-Pivet is a Macron loyalist who held the post during the previous parliament.

01:40She was re-elected on Thursday after winning 220 votes and will now have to run the institution

01:45alongside the new Popular Front.
