00:00The driver of the tour bus involved in the fatal accident in Genting Highlands last week

00:08has claimed trial to causing death by reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

00:1432-year-old S. Anand Kumar was charged at the Rao Magistrates' Court today under Section

00:2041 Sub 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and Section 26 Sub 1 of the same Act.

00:28Section 41 Sub 1 provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of no more than

00:3450,000 ringgit, while Section 26 Sub 1 provides for up to three months in prison, a fine not

00:42exceeding 3,000 ringgit or both.

00:45Police previously confirmed that Anand did not have a driver's license and had 27 traffic

00:50summonses for various offenses.

00:54The bus, carrying 18 Chinese nationals, was heading down from Genting Highlands last Saturday

00:59when it toppled and hit the road divider, killing two of the tourists.

01:05On Monday, Transport Minister Lok Siew Fok said transport authorities will launch a major

01:10crackdown on tour buses following the fatal crash.

01:14He said the transport ministry will also discuss with its tourism counterparts how to improve

01:19the enforcement of SOPs for travel agencies and tour buses.
