00:01A Sarawak assemblyman has raised concerns over Sarawak's readiness to host foreign investors, despite the state being marketed as an attractive destination.
00:11Pending assemblyman Violet Yong of DAP claims many foreign investors encounter major hurdles upon their arrival, including the lack of proper infrastructure and haphazard coordination among the relevant departments and agencies.
00:25Sarawak is attractive, I mean, through the talks, through the advertisement by our Sarawak GPS government to many foreign interested investors.
00:41But the problem is, when they come to Sarawak, there are no ready facilities or sufficient power for them to sell up their operations immediately.
00:58Yong said the state lacked a one-stop centre to help investors get set up, adding that although the state agency Invest Sarawak provided some guidance, the process remained too cumbersome and time-consuming.
01:09She added that another hurdle is the numerous licenses needed.
01:14I was given to understand that many investors, they can't wait.
01:19They would rather go to Penang or they go to Vietnam.
01:24I'm not saying that there's no investor, there wouldn't be any investor that comes to Sarawak, but I'm saying that the readiness of us.
01:32If we can be more ready, if we can be more organised, I believe Sarawak can do better.
