00:00Malaysia is famous for its incredible food scene and with Chinese cuisine
00:05playing such a big role it's something I simply can't miss. What better place to
00:09do it than right here in Petaling Street.
00:15Today I'm here at Ikki restaurant. Let's check it out.
00:21The moment I stepped in it seemed familiar. Not necessarily the place but the feeling.
00:34An abacus and wooden cupboards were on display just like the little touches in Colombian family
00:39restaurants. Quiet, warm and full of stories. The elegant thoughtful decor built up my anticipation
00:46for the meal and I wasn't disappointed.
00:54So this is the deep fried crispy pork belly with honey sauce.
01:03That's really good. It's really crispy and it tastes just like chicharron from Colombia.
01:10So this is the Yan Basket cutting pork chicken cubes.
01:17Oh wow, that's very different. I think the Yan Basket is really soft and it kind of reminds me of
01:24juca frita. The chicken is really good. I thought it'd be spicy but it's not too spicy.
01:30So these are the French beans with dried shrimp.
01:36I think that's really fresh and crunchy as well.
01:39So these are the caramelised soy sauce sea prawns.
01:45It tastes so fresh. It's got a little bit of sweet in it and it's very tender and soft as well.
01:53This is the steamed downstream patting boa fish. I'm going to have it with some rice.
01:59That's literally so delicious. It tastes just like my grandma's cooking and it's so soft.
02:03So this is the Hakamoy choice steamed pork belly. I think it looks really soft so let's give it a try.
02:14Oh, that's really good. I feel like it tastes very homey,
02:17something that I would have at home and would remind me of family.
02:20Okay, so I have the ayisilpao and I have a kaya cook and I'm going to try them now.
02:27That tastes really good. It has a crunch to it and it's also very sweet and tastes very fresh.
02:36I think the kaya is not too overpowering so you get to really enjoy the pastry.
02:40It's really soft as well so I love it.
02:42Food, like memories, crosses oceans. At Ikki, I tasted more than flavour. I felt the quiet rhythm of
02:52heritage, the warmth of family and the surprising ways cultures echo one another. What started as a
02:59meal became a poignant reminder of how food connects us, no matter how far from home we are.
