3 stars to be honoured by UCLan

Steve Pemberton, Mandip Gill and Alex Hartley are receiving Honorary Fellowships from UCLan but who are they?

00:00Hi, I'm Digital Reporter Amy Seddon. The University of Central Lancashire in

00:06Preston, best known as UCLan, is next week holding its graduation week and

00:11joining the 4,000 students taken to the stage between July 8th and July 12th

00:17will also be three celebrities with links to Lancashire. Steve Pemberton,

00:23Mandeep Gill and Alex Hartley will all receive honorary fellowships from UCLan

00:28but who are they? Watch on as I give a little explainer as to who are

00:34Lancashire's celebrities are and why UCLan wants to celebrate them. First up

00:40to receive the award is Alex Hartley who is a 30 year old former cricketer from

00:45Blackburn. Former Ribblesdale High School pupil Alex is being recognised for her

00:50significant contribution to cricket and sports broadcasting. Having travelled the

00:56world playing for Lancashire and England, the left-arm bowler was a key

01:01part of the 2017 World Cup winning team and she recently coached the Moulton

01:06Sultans in Pakistan's Super League. Alex now commentates on TNT Sports and BBC

01:13TV and Radio, co-presents a podcast and writes for a national newspaper. Next up

01:21is Mandeep Gill who's being honoured for her significant contribution to acting

01:26The 36 year old is originally from Leeds but she studied her undergraduate at

01:31UCLan between 2006 and 2009. For three series, former Preston resident Mandeep

01:38played companion Yasmin Khan to Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who, winning several

01:43awards for her performance. She also appeared in nearly 250 episodes of the

01:49soap opera Hollyoaks between 2012 and 2015 and has had parts in Casualty and

01:55The Good Karma Hospital. Most recently Mandeep played the lead role in 222 A

02:01Ghost Story in London's West End. Last but not least is Blackburn-born Steve

02:08Pemberton, 56, who is being recognised for a significant contribution to acting,

02:14writing and directing. Steve, who grew up in Shorley and attended St. Michael's

02:20Church of England High School, is the co-creator, co-writer and actor in the

02:26hugely popular shows The League of Gentlemen, Inside No. 9 and Psychoville.

02:31The father of three also appeared in Happy Valley and Benidorm and most

02:36recently he was a contestant on Channel 4's Taskmaster. On behalf of the
