00:40said she is proud of the meeting's achievements.

00:43Alliance leaders met in Bari, southern Italy and agreed on 11 resolutions, most notably

00:49providing Ukraine financial support in its fights against Russia and developing a counter-smuggling

00:54coalition to stem irregular migration.

00:58Maloney's far-right Brothers of Italy party stormed the recent European parliamentary

01:02elections and she used her time at the G7 lectern to speak about the hemicycle.

01:08In the G7, a final press conference, Giorgia Maloney hailed the summit as a success and

01:12after speaking about the final declaration's achievements, she made a comment on the EU

01:17vote.

01:18Speaking about the possibility of the re-election of Manderlein as president of the EU commission,

01:23she said that the proposal for the presidency of the commission belongs to the EPP party

01:28having won the most seats and that a meeting to discuss the issue will be held in Rome

01:34on Monday.

01:35Adding that, quote, when the proposal arrives, we will make our assessments.

01:57Up to 50 government officials were invited to plot out an end to the war in Ukraine at

02:02the Stanstatt event, except Russia.

02:30Analysts warn that the ambitious talks may be pointless as Russia, which recently presented

02:36a rejected ceasefire proposal, was not invited.

02:47Peter Pellegrini has been sworn in as Slovakia's new president in national parliament, the

02:53sixth since Slovakia gained independence in 1993.

02:58The 48-year-old is considered pro-Russian and an ally of the new prime minister, Robert

03:03Fico.

03:05Pellegrini called for national and European unity during his maiden speech.

03:11We are one nation, one society, one Slovakia, he said, adding that developing the country's

03:16relationships with its European neighbours, Poland, Austria and Hungary, is a priority.

03:23Populist leader Fico didn't attend the ceremony as he's recovering from a failed assassination

03:28attempt in May.

03:30Pellegrini beat pro-Western career diplomat Ivan Korchok in the presidential runoff, with

03:35his victory cementing Fico's grip on power by giving him major strategic posts.

03:47South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been re-elected by lawmakers for a second

03:52term.

03:53The former anti-apartheid activist, trade union leader and businessman has held the

03:58top job since 2018.

04:00He was re-elected as his party, Nelson Mandela's famed African National Congress, struck a

04:05deal with the main opposition before the final vote.

04:08Ramaphosa won 283 votes in the 400-member house.

04:13Despite the win, analysts warn there could be complications ahead for his coalition.
