00:46Greenland is for the Greenlandic people.

00:49The semi-autonomous island is a territory of Denmark and Egel has been calling for independence.

00:55Trump said earlier this week that he wouldn't rule out using force or economic pressure

00:59in order to make Greenland a part of the United States.

01:03He said it was a matter of national security.

01:06Those comments sparked anxiety in Denmark and across Europe.

01:10The US is an ally of the EU and the leading member of NATO and many in Europe were shocked

01:16that an incoming US leader could consider using force against an ally.

01:21Greenland has a population of 57,000 and is the world's largest island.

01:32The Alternative for Germany party has officially elected Alice Weidel as its right-wing candidate

01:37for chancellor during a two-day party conference in Riesa.

01:41The announcement of her candidacy came after the gathering was delayed by more than one

01:45hour due to anti-AFD protests.

01:49Polls show AfD in second place in the upcoming election, with about 20 percent support.

01:54However, Weidel has a low chance of becoming Germany's chancellor as other parties have

01:58refused to work with the AfD.

02:02Leading the polls is the conservative CDU with its leader Friedrich Merz, who called

02:06for fundamental change to German politics at the CDU's conference in Hamburg.

02:12In Berlin, Chancellor Olaf Scholz targeted the CDU at the centre-left SPD conference.

02:23of normal people, or close, now is not the time for CDU, CSU in Germany.

02:31After Olaf Scholz's coalition collapsed in November, polls show that support for his

02:35party sits at around 14 to 17 percent.

02:44Polls in California say the death toll from massive wildfires burning in and around Los

02:49Angeles has risen to 11.

02:52And the tally of homes and other buildings destroyed stands at more than 10,000.

02:56LA County Sheriff Robert G. Luna said around 153,000 residents are now under evacuation

03:04orders.

03:05He also said a nighttime curfew is in place covering the Palisades and Eaton fire areas

03:10and that officers are patrolling to prevent looting.

03:14He said more than 57,000 structures remain at risk.

03:18Mayor Karen Bass said Los Angeles is preparing for more high winds forecast for next week.

03:24The blazes started on Tuesday, powered by gusts from the Santa Ana winds which followed

03:29an exceptionally dry period.

03:32Officials say investigations into how the fires first broke out are still ongoing.

03:43Several people have been wounded in a series of drone attacks on both the Russian and Ukrainian

03:48side during the early hours of Saturday morning.

03:52No fatalities have been reported.

03:54In Ukraine, two citizens were wounded in Zaporizhia, according to local authorities.

04:00Some 20 houses were destroyed.
