00:08as both leaders prepared to deal with U.S. President Donald Trump.

00:13The two leaders emphasized their strong personal ties, which Putin said do not depend on the

00:17current international environment.

00:20We jointly stand for the establishment of a more just multilateral peace and order.

00:26We are working in the interests of ensuring indivisible security in the Eurasian space

00:32and in the world as a whole.

00:34At the same time, Xi expressed hope for positive ties with the U.S. in a call he had with Trump

00:40on Friday, something China's foreign ministry spokesperson restated after Trump's inauguration.

00:46China is willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with the U.S. in accordance with the principle of mutual respect,

00:53peaceful coexistence and cooperative win-win.

00:55We are willing to jointly manage and develop mutual benefits.

02:15I think it's clear that we as European Union criticize the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.

02:33The first Trump administration made a similar move in 2017.

02:37But President Joe Biden reversed this on his first day in office in 2021.

02:42In the European Parliament, opinions on the matter vary.

04:27As news of the new US President's first actions echoed around meeting rooms,

04:32the President of the European Commission was compelled to show unity and determination.

04:37Ursula von der Leyen, recovering from a serious illness, addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos,

04:43where she said that the US and European economies are interdependent

04:47as Donald Trump has threatened to impose a tariff on European products of up to 20%.

04:54The trade volume between us is 1.5 trillion euros, representing 30% of global trade.

05:10A lot is at stake for both sides.

05:13So, our first priority will be to engage early, discuss common interests and be ready to negotiate.

05:26We will be pragmatic, but we will always stand by our principles.

05:33We will protect our interests and uphold our values, because that is the European way.

05:42The President acknowledged that while the interconnected global economy was at its peak at the start of the century,

05:48it has now become fragmented.

05:50Political changes have been conducive to deepening cooperation and the EU must adapt, she said.

05:57But the world is changing, so must we.

06:05In the last 25 years, Europe has relied on the rising tide of global trade to drive its growth.

06:15It has relied on cheap energy from Russia, and Europe has too often outsourced its own security.

06:26But those days are gone.

06:29Von der Leyen struck a more conciliatory tone than usual on China,

06:33although the tariffs on electric cars made in China are overshadowing trade and by extension political relations,

06:39the Commission President called for deeper cooperation.

06:432025 marks 50 years of our Union's diplomatic relations with China.

06:51I see it as an opportunity to engage and deepen our relationship with China,

06:58and where possible, even to expand our trade and investment ties.

07:04It is time to pursue a more balanced relationship with China, in a spirit of fairness and reciprocity.

07:16Ursula von der Leyen added that in the coming weeks, the European Commission will put forward proposals on,

07:21for example, reducing burdens on businesses and extending the Capital Markets Union.

07:29As he did during his first administration, Trump is once more pulling the U.S. out of the World Health Organization.

07:35He also ordered a comprehensive review of U.S. foreign aid spending.

07:39Both moves fit into his isolationist, America-first approach to international affairs.

07:45So we paid $500 million to World Health when I was here, and I terminated it.

07:50They wanted us back so badly, so we'll see what happens.

07:53It's pretty sad to think of it. China pays $39 million, and we pay $500 million, and China's a bigger country.

08:05His move does not just pause as the future transfer of U.S. government funds,

08:09but also recalls and reassigns federal personnel and contractors working with the organization.

08:14Many scientists fear this move could roll back decades-long gains made in fighting infectious diseases

08:21like AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.

08:24Experts also warn it could weaken the world's defenses against dangerous new outbreaks capable of triggering pandemics.

08:34Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday welcomed his Armenian counterpart

08:39for bilateral talks that included the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan tensions.

08:45The meeting comes after the Armenian prime minister repeated the intention

08:49to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization led by Russia.

08:53Lavrov said Moscow was ready to assist in the normalization of relations.

08:57We hope that in the future, the Russian side will take into account all aspects of what is happening,

09:03avoiding one-sided interpretations, which, unfortunately, we have seen recently.

09:31Azerbaijan and Armenia relations have been on and off for over three decades

09:36since both nations fought a bloody war in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

09:44Six people have been killed and dozens wounded in an Israeli attack on the Jenin refugee camp

09:49in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

09:52The Israeli military says it was conducting a counter-terrorism operation in the area,

10:42with over 900 trucks entering Gaza since the truce began.

10:52More than 60 people have died and over 50 were injured

10:56after a fire broke out at a ski resort in Turkey's Bolu province.

11:01The blaze started on the restaurant floor of the 12-story resort

11:05before it quickly spread throughout the building.

11:09The cause of the fire is under investigation,

11:11but local media suggested that the wooden cladding on the exterior of the hotel

11:15may have accelerated the spread of the fire.

11:19They added that the hotel is on the side of a cliff,

11:21hampering efforts to combat the flames.

11:25Two of the victims died after jumping from the building in a panic,

11:28according to Bolu's governor.

11:32The fire occurred during the school semester break

11:34when many skiers from Istanbul and Ankara head to the Bolu mountains.

11:40Other hotels at the resort were evacuated as a precaution

11:43and guests were placed in hotels around Bolu.
