Zelensky says Ukraine controls over 1,250 square kilometers in Russia's Kursk region.
00:12
Construction of a military campus expected to house 5,000 German soldiers has begun in
00:17
Lithuania.
00:25
Ukraine controls over 1,250 square kilometers in Russia's Kursk region.
00:31
That is according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
00:35
He adds that troops captured the largest number of Russian prisoners in a single operation,
00:40
making it one of Kiev's largest efforts to liberate Ukrainians from Russian captivity.
00:45
84 temporary accommodation centers opened in the Kursk region, as Russian authorities
01:13
say more than 121,000 civilians were evacuated since the start of the incursion.
01:23
On Sunday, the Ukrainian President addressed the aim of the incursion into Kursk for the
01:28
first time, which is to create a buffer zone to prevent further attacks by Moscow across
01:33
the border.
01:34
Zelensky says his troops would not have to physically enter Russian territories, particularly
01:39
the Kursk region, if Ukraine partners would lift the restriction on the use of long-range
01:44
weapons.
01:50
At least one person was killed and six people are missing after a luxury superyacht carrying
01:55
tourists capsized and sank off the coast of Sicily in bad weather.
02:03
Fifteen people were rescued initially and taken to shore at Porticello, where eight
02:08
are in the hospital.
02:12
Amongst the survivors was a one-year-old child.
02:38
The British-flagged 56-metre sailboat had a crew of 10 people and was carrying 12 passengers,
02:50
with British, American and Canadian nationalities, according to the Italian Coast Guard.
02:56
A helicopter and rescue boats from Italian emergency services were at the scene searching
03:01
for the missing people.
03:04
Experienced deep-sea divers were also there to help in the search.
03:09
Local media said a fierce storm had battered the area overnight, but skies were clear and
03:13
seas calm by the time the search was underway.
03:19
Bulgarian President Ruman Radev has rejected Prime Minister-designate Goritsa Granchirova-Kozareva's
03:26
proposal for a new caretaker cabinet.
03:31
Her current plans would see Stoyanov retain his position as Interior Minister, something
03:37
the president has said he won't allow because it would not guarantee the holding of fair
03:41
elections.
03:42
The current caretaker government of Dmitar Glavchev will now remain in power until the
04:06
parliament presents a new shortlist of potential prime ministers.
04:12
Radev's decision has set a precedent in Bulgaria, but constitutionalists are divided on whether
04:18
the issue is constitutional or political.
04:41
Kisilova says the date for the next elections could be around the month of December.
04:51
Heavy rains have lashed alpine regions of Austria, leaving parts of the capital Vienna
04:56
underwater.
04:58
Local media say downpours have caused severe damage in parts of the country and disrupted
05:03
road and rail transport.
05:05
National broadcaster ORF said that a woman was dragged under a bus by the force of flooding
05:10
in the DΓΆrbling area in the north of Vienna and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
05:17
The amount of rain to fall on Vienna is the highest since records began more than 150
05:22
years ago.
05:25
Meanwhile, clean-up operations in St. Anton continue with trucks and excavators working
05:31
to remove the mud and gravel from the road and the village.
05:35
The A-road to Arlberg remains closed and a decision on when to reopen it will be taken
05:40
on Monday.
05:59
St. Anton's mayor says the clean-up operation will take weeks to complete and volunteers
06:04
will help clean houses in the village.
06:11
A manhunt is underway for a masked man who stabbed an 11-year-old boy to death while
06:16
the child was playing football with his friends.
06:20
The man attacked three children at a sports centre, killing one of them and then fleeing.
06:26
Spanish police have launched a search and capture operation involving a dozen patrols
06:30
and a helicopter to locate the still-at-large attacker.
06:36
Relatives, children and residents of the town gathered for a minute of silence in tribute
06:40
to the child who was killed.
06:47
China has responded to concerns raised by EU businesses over its revised anti-espionage
06:53
law, which was broadened to include the transfer of so-called work secrets in February of this
06:59
year.
07:00
The revised law includes further restrictions on the transfer of data to other parties but
07:06
remains vague as to what kind of data is considered a national security threat by China's government.
07:15
Concerns surrounding the law is particularly prevalent in the pharmaceutical industry,
07:20
as foreign businesses are afraid of making any attempts to certify manufacturing sites
07:25
in China.
07:28
The German Medicines Manufacturers Association recently said many of their inspectors refused
07:34
to visit and inspect production sites in China over fears of arrest for spying under the
07:39
law.
07:43
But China says it's committed to providing foreign business with a market-orientated
07:48
and law-based environment.
07:50
China is a major supplier of drugs to the EU and these new restrictions risk exacerbating
08:16
the disruption of supply chains.
08:21
Construction of a military base dedicated to a German brigade at the Rudninkai training
08:25
ground started in Lithuania.
08:28
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Vilnius and Berlin agreed to the
08:34
permanent deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania.
08:38
Officials agreed for most of the soldiers to be stationed in the Lithuanian region of
08:43
Rudninkai, with Lithuania promising to prepare the necessary infrastructure.
08:49
During the initial stage of construction, crucial infrastructure for the future military
08:53
town will be built.
08:56
The brigade is expected to consist of around 5,000 soldiers.
09:01
So far, Lithuania estimated that a third of them will come with their families.
09:06
Berlin intends to keep a military brigade fully stationed in Lithuania until 2027.
09:13
The development of a town with essential facilities to accommodate them is also underway as part
09:18
of the project.
09:22
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 has struck off the far eastern coast
09:27
of Russia near a major naval base.
09:32
The earthquake, at a depth of 6 kilometers, triggered the eruption of two volcanoes in
09:37
the Kuril Islands on Sunday.
09:39
The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially warned that Azado tsunami waves were possible
09:46
for coasts within 480 kilometers of the epicenter.
09:51
There have been no reports of any casualties.
09:58
Poland's largest satellite, Eagle Eye, was successfully launched into orbit.
10:03
The historical send-off brings Polish space science and technology to its peak.
10:07
Tomasz Barszynski works at the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences and
10:13
he speaks proudly of the Polish-designed satellite.
10:30
But the mission facilitated by SpaceX left from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
10:36
The project, which kicked off in April 2020, will provide researchers with high-resolution
10:42
pictures of the Earth.
10:44
The mission control center is located in Warsaw, and according to plans, the mission will last
10:50
for minimum one year on Earth's lower orbit.
10:58
Stargazers and photographers gather across the globe to catch a glimpse of the rare blue
11:03
supermoon.
11:05
A supermoon is used to describe when a full moon is at its closest point to Earth.
11:11
Because of this close proximity, the moon appears to be 14% larger and 30% brighter
11:17
compared to when it's at its farthest distance.
11:21
The lunar spectacle is especially rare as according to NASA it is also a blue moon which
11:27
happens every 2-3 years.
11:30
Worried that you missed it?
11:32
Well according to NASA, the blue supermoon can be seen through early Wednesday morning.
11:38
The next August supermoon is the first of four lunar spectacles.
11:42
The next supermoon will be on the night of September 18th, followed by October 17th and
11:48
the final supermoon will round out the year on November 15th.
