Telford Athletics Club hosted the Shropshire Schools Championships, where quite a number of youngsters gathered to battle it out.

01:50 They've performed definitely above their average.

01:54 I think there's a lot more in there,

01:55 despite them doing personal bests today.

01:58 But I think they're definitely on track

01:59 for a big performance in the English school championships

02:02 that are coming in July.

02:03 And they're so important, events like these, aren't they?

02:05 Would you call them grassroots athletic events,

02:08 Absolutely.

02:08 I mean, I can remember being a youth

02:10 and participating in such events.

02:11 And obviously, these kind of events get you used to competing.

02:17 It's a great atmosphere to get used to people actually

02:20 watching them from the sidelines.

02:21 So a lot of people have gone to Olympics from such meetings.

02:24 So absolutely important.

02:26 Amelia, how have you done today, then?

02:28 Quite well, I think.

02:29 Got a PB, so very pleased.

02:31 What was your PB, then?

02:32 41.09.

02:34 Cool.

02:34 So when you come into an event like this,

02:36 do you have any sense-- are you waking up

02:38 thinking, I'm feeling good, I reckon I might get a PB?

02:40 Or do you just not have a clue in the morning

02:43 when you're having your cereal?

02:44 The nerves, and it's like, got to get rid of them,

02:46 got to think, I am going to do well.

02:49 That focus on it.

02:51 And Ethan, how have you fared today?

02:54 I've done quite well.

02:54 A nice PB.

02:56 It would have gone further had it not clipped the floor.

03:00 What do you reckon the clip cost you in distance, then?

03:03 What do you reckon?

03:03 Maybe two metres, I think you reckon.

03:05 Yeah, I reckon two metres.

03:06 But even with the clip, you got a PB on it?

03:10 Not on that one.

03:11 On the other ones, it would have been 55, 56 metres,

03:14 which would have put me up in the rankings

03:16 and might have even got me a record.
