00:00 The MACC has identified a Singaporean behind a smuggling syndicate at Port Klang, which
00:07 is allegedly responsible for about RM3.5 billion in lost tax revenue.
00:13 A source said MACC arrested five men and two women for their alleged involvement in the
00:17 syndicate during an operation in Port Klang yesterday evening.
00:21 Of the seven arrested, three are enforcement agency officers, while three others are employees
00:25 of a company and a company director.
00:28 The syndicate allegedly made false declarations in customs forms to evade paying taxes.
00:33 The source also said 19 containers containing various imported goods were seized during
00:38 an operation conducted by MACC and the Customs Department on Wednesday, adding that certain
00:43 goods did not have the required import permits.
00:45 MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Ahmad Kuzairi Yahaya said the case is being investigated
00:51 under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds
00:56 of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
