Wales headlines 19 February: Farmers protest Welsh gov tree plans

Hundreds of people marched through Port Talbot and Newport to protest the potential loss of thousands of jobs at the Steelworks plants in the towns. Over 2000 jobs are at risk around South Wales, as TATA say they are losing millions every day. The Welsh government say they are in talks to save jobs.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 64 year old man died following an alleged assault. Police were called to a serious assault in Belmont Walk in Butetown Cardiff, at around 9am on Sunday morning. A 38 year old man was taken into police custody and put under arrest.

Roughly a hundred farmers have descended on a Welsh town to protest the Welsh government at a Welsh Labour leadership hustings. They claim new laws requiring them to use 10% of their land to plant trees is ‘one ask too many’. The Welsh gov say they want to work in collaboration with farmers.
