Axel Fenner's Fatal Crash @ Fujilab Rally 1994 (Aftermath)

Co-driver to Jarmo Junnilainen in the #94 Ford Escort, Axel Fenner lost his life as a result of an accident which happened during the Kamerapiste Fujilab Rally, in Finland. Born in Sulingen, Lower Saxony, West Germany, he was a resident of Iisalmi in Pohjois-Savon province, central Finland.

It happened on Saturday, 28 May 1994, about 7.7 kilometers after the start of the fifth and last special stage of the rally. The car driven by Jarmo Junnilainen also from Iisalmi, went out of control, hit a bank and was thrown high up in the air, landing roof first into the road. Co-driver Axel Fenner was trapped when the roll-bar collapsed. He suffered serious injuries from which he succumbed later in Tampere hospital on Thursday, 02 June 1994.

After the accident, the stage was not suspended and racing resumed after the ambulance carrying Fenner to hospital, had left the course. It is believed Junnilainen and Fenner represented the Iisalmi Rally Club. The Kamerapiste Fujilab Rally was the third round of the 1994 F-Cup (Finnish Rally Cup) and the first Summer event of the series.
