Todor Slavov's Fatal Crash @ Rally Tvarditsa-Elena 2015 (Aftermath)

Bulgarian driver Todor Slavov died after suffering a heavy crash during the Rally Tvarditsa-Elena in Bulgaria. The accident happened on Sunday, 28 June 2015.

The fifth special stage was the first of the second day of rally. Its starting line was located in the small town of Tvarditsa, going towards Elena, in Sliven Province, Southeastern Bulgaria. A few kilometers after the start, the Fiat Abarth Grande Punto S2000 #3 driven by Todor Slavov left the road and rolled into a ravine, being badly damaged.

Greviously injured, Todor Slavov and his co-driver Petar Iliev were removed from the wreckage by the emergence firefighters, who had to cut the vehicle. Both of them were transported to Sliven hospital, where Slavov was placed under assisted breathing. The doctors planned to transfer him by helicopter to the intensive care unit of Sofia hospital but, despite the efforts of the doctors, he passed away shortly afterwards. Iliev was airlifted to Sofia, being reported to be in non-life threatening condition.

According to eyewitnesses reports, possibly the driver failed to take a bend after arriving at high speed, and crashed into the ravine below. As a result of the tragedy, the organisers stopped immediately the rally.

A tall man and a talented rally driver from Varna, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Todor Slavov was at his seventh start in the Rally Tvarditsa-Elena, with a best finish of 3rd in 2014. He had rented the Fiat Abarth Grande Punto S2000 for the rally from the Turkish team "Pegasus Racing".
