A fatal accident involving a spectator caused the 2015 edition of the Rally de La Rioja to be suspended at the end of the eighth special stage. The event was the 5th round of the Campeonato Interprovincial de Rally (CIR), organized jointly by the Federaciones Regionales Deportivas of the Catamarca and La Rioja provinces.

It happened on Sunday, 13 September 2015, approximately three kilometers from the finish line of the 7.80-kilometer third special stage of the second day of the rally, between the villages of Campo Bracco and Juan Cano, in province of La Rioja, Argentina. While travelling at high speed along a dirt straightaway, the Ford Ka #65 entered in the N2 class, of Juan Nicolás Juárez-Daniel Leguizamón, both from Santiago del Estero, for unknown reason went out of control and rolled over several times at the exit of a cement ford. While bouncing out of the way, the car struck a spectator of about 70 years, Marcelo Rafael Aguilar, who was standing 20 meters from the track. The car came to rest on the roadside, badly damaged after hitting a power pole.

The spectator was immediately rescued and resuscitated at the place by the emergency crews. Then he was transferred by ambulance to the Hospital Regional Enrique Vera Barros in La Rioja, where Marcelo Rafael Aguilar was pronounced dead on arrival.

Paramedics also rescued and extracted from the wreck the driver Juan Nicolás Juárez and his co-driver Daniel Leguizamón, who were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

After the tragedy, the organizers of the rally decided to stop the special stage and the remainder of the day's events were canceled. César Folledo-Sebastián Carrizo in a Mitsubishi Lancer, who were in the lead at the moment, were declared winners of the rally.
