00:11 Instead of the usual interface, Omegle.com now shows a letter from its founder, Leif
00:16 K. Brooks, announcing the service is shutting down.
00:18 The letter says it is "no longer sustainable."
00:22 The site is mired in controversy related to child sex crimes, racism and far-right abuse.
00:28 The site was sued in 2021 for a case involving an 11-year-old paired with a man in his 30s,
00:33 leading to alleged sex crimes.
00:35 A similar case happened in Australia the same year.
00:38 The site was also criticized for racism and white supremacist abuse that existed on the
00:43 service.
00:44 Omegle grew in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
