00:08 Michael Bagot, 29 years old, returned to South Korea this July.
00:16 His second contract under the EPS or Employment Permit System is a luxury for his loved ones.
00:24 He is hoping that the Philippines will extend the stay of the employees under the EPS.
00:31 Every 10 years, the help for our family in the Philippines is greater.
00:36 The Philippines and South Korea have a strong relationship for decades.
00:40 That's why it's not surprising that many Filipinos are encouraged to work here
00:45 where the income is higher and the benefits are better.
00:50 The Philippine Embassy here in Seoul confirmed that they are studying the extension of the employment of skilled workers under the EPS.
01:00 You have the opportunity to have another contract that is a bit longer than your first contract.
01:07 The EPS will last for two decades where foreign workers are allowed to hire Korean employers who cannot hire local workers.
01:15 More than half of the estimated 63,000 Filipinos here in South Korea are under the EPS program.
01:21 But they also need to see the right conditions before giving a longer contract.
01:26 There are requirements that they are looking at including the language proficiency.
01:31 Aside from factory workers, they are also talking about getting domestic helpers from the Philippines
01:37 especially the aging population of South Korea.
01:40 They are doing pilot study and possible pilot implementation in the coming months.
01:49 But the number is small initially.
