US, Caribbean on alert for growing tropical system

AccuWeather meteorologists say a major hurricane is likely to take shape as a strengthening tropical system traverses the Atlantic basin.

but this is going to develop and

this will be a storm rather quickly.

this as we move forward here.

But this is the story.

This is the number one story in the

tropics as we move forward here,

and I believe tropical depression #3

will be a hurricane by Thursday morning.

Now we'll move north of the

Leeward Islands this weekend.

Probably is a major hurricane.

At the very least,

this system once it strengthens and we

think it will rapidly strengthen this weekend,

it's at the very least going to

produce rough surf and dangerous rip

currents up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

Here we take a look at the water

temperatures are warm water temperatures

in the Atlantic or at their peak right now.

so we have plenty of warm water.

Now what would stop this is

dry air and wind shear.

Now you look at this and you say wow,

look at all the dry air that's in its path.

Well, here's the thing.

The dry air is not coming into the storm.

It's being pushed away from the storm.

I've seen this with these systems.

These developing systems.

They could be surrounded by dry air,

they create their own environment for development.

That's what appears to be happening right now.

This is a telltale sign that we have

which means there's low wind shear.

surf hammering the northern side

Bahamas as we get in the early part of the week.

there's at least going to be some impacts

there and the surf is going to be very,

off the East Coast of Florida.

I think we could pretty much rule out
