Tropical trouble brewing in Atlantic

AccuWeather meteorologists are monitoring multiple areas in the Atlantic basin where tropical systems could develop in the coming days.

00:00 We've talked about activity in the East Pacific.

00:04 With regards to Hillary, let's investigate the Atlantic waters, the Gulf of Mexico, the

00:09 Caribbean.

00:10 And here we are looking at some factors that could lead to some organization down the road,

00:15 those factors being ingredients for a formation.

00:19 Formation factors here when it comes to tropical development.

00:22 The warm waters have been in place all throughout the basins here, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean

00:26 and into the Atlantic.

00:28 But we're starting to notice a little bit of a transition here with regards to the wind

00:31 shear.

00:32 The winds higher up in the atmosphere are going to begin to reduce in some zones and

00:36 shift and we're also going to be looking at uptick in some of the moisture content.

00:41 Of course, you think about tropical systems, a lot of water, right?

00:45 You have dry, dusty air.

00:46 Thunderstorms really don't mix so much.

00:49 Let's talk about the tropical Atlantic here as we go throughout the next several days.

00:52 All right, a lot to unpack with this graphic and you can see a couple stripes of green.

00:57 This will be the tropical wave tracks as we go through time heading into this weekend

01:01 and into early next week, where we also see the wind shear.

01:04 See the arrows here, the winds that are working their way from west to east.

01:08 They begin to shift a little further off toward the north and also relax just a bit.

01:13 So we talk about the warm sea surface water temperatures.

01:16 Those are plentiful.

01:17 So there are a couple of zones that we're going to be watching out for not only late

01:21 this week into this weekend, but even as we head our way into early next week over the

01:25 Atlantic base at a couple of these tropical waves have medium development potential as

01:30 the front runner here pushes its way just off to the north of the leeward islands.

01:36 In the meantime, we're talking about the big heat dome developing over the nation's midsection.

01:41 Anytime you see a high pressure in this location, this time of the year, you have to look south

01:45 underneath that as there's going to be a surplus of moisture in place.

01:49 We're also going to be following a tropical wave.

01:51 This is going to deposit some drenching rain coming into Florida this weekend, and then

01:56 we have to turn our attention into the Gulf of Mexico.

01:58 This is another zone we're going to be keying in on as we head our way into early next week.

02:03 At this point, it's a low development potential regardless.
