Adam Cranston sentenced to 15yrs over tax evasion scheme

Adam Cranston, the son of a former ATO deputy commissioner has been sentenced to 15 years for his role in a multi million dollar tax evasion conspiracy.

00:00 This was a huge scheme. It involved five people, of which Adam Cranston was described as one

00:07 of the key architects. The justice said that he was involved in setting up this scheme,

00:12 that he was also involved in the expansion of it, and that it defrauded the Australian

00:16 taxpayer of more than $100 million. Cranston himself is believed to have pocketed at least

00:24 $6 million. He actually described Adam Cranston as having only a fair chance of rehabilitation.

00:33 This largely went to a few different aspects. First off, the scale of the fraud. Second,

00:38 the duration, how long this actually went on for. And also just a lack of ability from

00:43 Adam Cranston, from the justice's perspective, that he just didn't really understand the

00:47 scale of criminal involvement and the offending, the absolute depths that this went to. So

00:54 he said that Adam Cranston is sentenced to a term of 15 years, and that is with a non-parole

01:00 period of 10 years.
