Previously, if a creator wanted to change their name on YouTube, they had to change their name and icon for their Google account as well. For many, this was a frustrating and tedious task that didn't make sense, especially from a branding perspective. Now, creators can update their channel name and picture without it affecting their Google account. However, if a creator is verified and changes their name, they will lose their verification check mark. They must reapply to get it back. The new feature, which YouTube says is a "top request from creators," is now available to both brand and personal accounts.
