Will We Need A Vaccine Passport to Travel?
COVID-19 vaccine appears as the unique solution to fight the virus and if a vaccine passport was only hypothetical, it could become a reality.
Tech firms in the US and Europe have been working with The Commons Project to make a universal COVID-19 vaccine certificate.
The CommonPass app is still in trials in some of the biggest airports and aims to be accepted in every airport in the world.
Vaccination programs started in the US and in Europe and Greece already allows vaccinated visitors to enter the country without restrictions.
What could be necessary to travel, can also cause data protection breaches and reduce people’s freedom based on their medical records.
EU Commission says that is urgent to work on a vaccination certificate in full compliance with EU data protection law.
European countries like Denmark, Estonia and Iceland are looking to grant territory access with no restrictions to travelers with a vaccine certificate.
But the World Health Organization (WHO) advices governments not to rush with such measures as effectiveness of the vaccine in term of reducing virus transmission is still unknown.
