South Korean health authorities reported an average of 88-point-7 confirmed COVID-19 cases a day last week, a 1-point-8 person on-week increase.
The nation's health minister said Sunday that the social distancing level could be raised to 1-point-5 if the trend continues.
Officials emphasized that there are still some parts of the country with weak disease prevention efforts where the cooperation of individuals is important.
With fines for people not wearing a mask to start this Friday, the government will supply masks to community service centers, and subway stations for people who have lost them or forgotten to bring one.
