Ballot Request Surge , Setting Records in US.
28 million ballots have been requested.
This is in addition to the 43 million ballots that
will automatically be mailed out.
With nearly six weeks left before the election,
these numbers have far exceeded the pre-Election Day
ballots that were cast in the 2016 election. .
Nearly 50 million pre-Election Day
ballots were sent out in 2016.
Close to a dozen states have expanded
the rules for mail-in ballots to accommodate
voters affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Registered Democrats have requested 1.3 million
more ballots than registered Republicans.
Nearly half a million ballots have already been cast.
In 15 states — including Michigan, Wisconsin,
Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Arizona — more
absentee ballots have been
requested than the totals for 2016.
Close to two dozen states have already begun
either absentee voting or in-person voting.
