Japan's new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has expressed hope that Japan can have "forward-looking" relations with its "important neighbor," South Korea.
Suga made the remarks in his reply Saturday to a letter from South Korean President Moon Jae-in congratulating Suga on his inauguration as Prime Minister and saying the two should work on improving bilateral relations.
Suga added that he looks forward to resolving difficulties between the two countries.
President Moon had called Japan South Korea's closest friend in his letter and that he is ready to sit down for talks with Japan anytime.
