Rare dolphins return to Hong Kong after ferry traffic pause amid lockdown

With travel restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic having emptied the waters off Hong Kong, Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins also known as Chinese white dolphins or pink dolphins have come back to the quieter area.
"And what we have noticed, since the ferries have stopped in this area, is dolphins that we hadn't seen for four or five, six years, are back in the Hong Kong habitat."
Researchers say sightings of the aquatic mammals appear to be up as much as 30 percent.
Excited to have the rare opportunity to study how noise affects their behavior... marine scientists are hopeful the dolphin population that had been decreasing in recent years may bounce back, in a more peaceful environment.
