South Korea's doctors and the health ministry will soon sit down for talks... to prevent more strikes by doctors over the government's proposals for healthcare reform.
The Korean Medical Association and the health ministry have agreed to a meeting, at an as-yet-unspecified date, that would include the KMA president and the health minister.
They'll be looking for ways to prevent a second strike scheduled later this month... and a third walkout by resident doctors starting this Friday.
The government's proposed reforms include the training of thousands more doctors, which the KMA says would be a poor use of funds.
Instead, the KMA says new money for the sector should be used to improve pay for doctors currently in training.
The Korea Association of Medical Colleges has also asked medical students and trainee doctors to not go on strike but focus on their work and their studies.
