Around one-quarter of the country's medical institutions will be closed all day to protest the government's recently-announced package of health reforms.
The Korean Medical Association, which speaks for some 130-thousand doctors, as well as 26 other medical societies, say they are against the plans which include increasing admissions at medical schools and extending state health insurance coverage to Korean traditional herbal remedies.
South Korea's top health officials have again called on the striking doctors to change their minds and head to work.
The 24-hour strike is the second of its kind following last Friday's walk-out.
