Brave Cop Saves Man in Wheelchair From Oncoming Train!

LODI, CALIFORNIA, U.S. — Lodi Police Department took to Facebook to honor the bravery of Officer Urrea after she rescued a man stuck on a crossing moments before a train rushed by.

Officer Erika Urrea was in the area of Lodi Avenue on August 12 at around 8:44 a.m. when she spotted the man — who was in a wheelchair — stuck on the tracks.

She noticed that the crossing arms began to come down, signaling the immediate arrival of a passing train.

Bodycam footage captures the moment she leaps from her patrol vehicle and runs towards the man asking if he can get up. The Union Pacific train can be heard sounding its horn as it raced toward them; struggling to free his chair, she pulls him away seconds before the train roars by.

According to Lodi Police, the unnamed man — 66-years-old — suffered injuries to his leg because the train still struck him as Urrea pulled him away.

She and another Police Officer arriving on the scene tended to the man's injured leg before he was taken to an area hospital. The man was listed in critical but stable condition.

Urrea, who is a 14-year veteran of the department declined to comment about her actions on Wednesday, her department, however, praised her actions and noted how proud they are of her.
