Hero cop saves man from oncoming train in New Jersey

SECAUCUS, NEW JERSEY — A New Jersey railway cop is being hailed as a hero after he saved a “despondent man” from an oncoming train last Friday.
According to a statement from the N.J. Transit Police Union, Officer Victor Ortiz pulled the man from the track near Secaucus Junction with only seconds to spare.
The 16-year veteran was responding to a report of a man having a row on a train.
“As Oritz arrived, the man walked off the train, jumped onto the tracks and then ran along the tracks. Oritz followed, first on the platform and then on tracks,” the union said in a statement describing the incident.
The two spoke briefly and “the man laid on the tracks and refused to move.” Oritz struggled with him and eventually pulled him from the track just as a braking train was about to pass through the area.
