Maharashtra Lockdown Extended Till August 31, Malls & Market Complexes Allowed To Open

Lockdown in Maharashtra which has been progressively eased over the past two months, will be extended till August 31. Maharashtra government, headed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray made the announcement for extension with certain relaxations and phase-wise opening of some activities in the state. As part of the state's Mission 'Begin Again' initiative, malls & market complexes without theatres, food courts & restaurants will be allowed between 9 am & 7 pm from August 5, the order said. Movement of persons for purpose of non-essential activities like shopping & outdoor exercises shall be restricted within neighbourhood area limits with mandatory precautions of wearing masks, social distancing & personal hygiene. Unrestricted movement will be allowed only for attending place of work which are open and for medical reasons. Large public gatherings and congregations will continue to remain banned. Outdoor non-team sports like golf courses, outdoor firing range, outdoor gymnastics, tennis and outdoor badminton will be allowed with physical distancing and sanitation measures from August 5. With 9,211 new patients being detected, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra on July 29 reached 4,00,651. With 298 fresh fatalities, the death toll went up to 14,463.
