The world's first phase three clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine has begun in the United States.
It's being conducted by U.S. biotech company Moderna and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
According to Moderna, the trial is to be conducted at nearly one hundred research sites in the U.S.,... with the first patients dosed at a site in Georgia.
The trial is expected to enroll around 30-thousand adult volunteers and evaluate the safety of the vaccine,... and see whether it can prevent symptomatic COVID-19 after two doses.
Moderna has also received an additional 472-million dollars from the U.S. government to support the development of its potential COVID-19 vaccine.
