Lawmakers to hold confirmation hearing for NIS chief-nominee Park Jie-won

The screening process for South Korea's intelligence agency chief-nominee will be held this morning at the National Assembly.
Rival political parties will assess the fitness of Park Jie-won, a former lawmaker of the opposition Party for People's Livelihoods also known for his role in arranging the historic first-ever inter-Korean summit in 2000 and paving the way for other joint declarations.
They will also review Park's qualifications, including allegations of illegal money transfers to the North shortly after the Kim Dae-jung administration, for which he was jailed in 2006.
The first part of the hearing, focusing on his moral fitness will be televised live, but the afternoon session focusing on North Korea issues, including sensitive matters,... will be held behind the closed-doors.
Park's decades-long public life covers a wide range of high-profile posts in politics, government and at the presidential office.
