전세계 코로나 비상...확진자 1600만명 훌쩍넘어

Global confirmed coronavirus infections have now well surpassed the 16 million mark with no sign of slowing down.
In fact, some countries, like Japan and Australia, are again seeing the highest number of new Covid-19 cases since pandemic began.
Kim Sung-min reports. The total number of COVID-19 cases worldwide has now topped 16 million.
The U.S. still remains the worst-affected country....with more than 1-thousand deaths a day for the past four days.
The U.S. CDC predicted last week that if such a rate continues, the total death toll in the U.S. will reach one-hundred-75-thousand by August 15th.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. death toll stands at 1-hundred 47-thousand as of Monday..., with around 4-million-230-thousand total infections.
Meanwhile, Russia has seen over 5-thousand new COVID-19 cases every day in the past week..., bringing the country's total to around 812-thousand.
The death toll in Russia is over 13-thousand.
Many of the recent cases in South Korea have come from Russia, through ships docking in the southeastern port of Busan.
Over in Japan, the total number of COVID-19 cases has topped 31-thousand.
Japan has seen more than 700 cases a day over the past 5 days.
Australia has also seen a spike in infections in Victoria state... with many linked to an elderly care facility.
On July 26th, the state confirmed 4-hundred-95 cases,... the country's highest number of cases in a single day.
The sudden hike in infections in countries like Japan and Australia, which both previously appeared to have the virus relatively under control, suggests we are a long way from the end of this pandemic.
