S. Korea not considering postponing GSOMIA termination: Defense Ministry
  • 4 years ago
South Korea's defense ministry says the government is not considering postponing the termination of its military intel-sharing pact with Japan which is set to expire next week.
At a regular briefing on Monday,... ministry spokesperson Choi Hyun-soo was asked whether the government was reviewing such options to which she said it isn't, as far as she knows.
In August, Seoul decided not to extend GSOMIA,... in response to Japan's trade retaliation over a court ruling ordering Japanese firms to compensate Korean victims of Japan's wartime forced labor.
Choi added that there's no change to the government's stance... saying that such measures can only be reviewed... if Japan lifts its export restrictions... and if Seoul-Tokyo ties recover.
