S. Korea's NSC discusses Seoul-Tokyo negotiations ahead of GSOMIA termination
  • 4 years ago
Today's weekly meeting of the National Security Council, led by National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong,... focused on a range of pending military issues.
Ahead of the expiration of South Korea's military intel-sharing pact with Japan next week,... the NSC reviewed the status of Seoul-Tokyo relations... as well as possible negotiations through diplomatic channels.
No visible progress has been made on high-level talks, though, which President Moon proposed to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at an ASEAN summit earlier this month.
Members also discussed ways to gather international support for the Moon administration's peace drive on the Korean Peninsula... at the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus in Thailand next week.
Also discussed were the ongoing negotiations over sharing the cost of stationing American troops in Korea.
