S. Korea to review GSOMIA renewal during NSC meeting Thursday, announcement could follow soon

South Korea's presidential office is reportedly set to discuss the possibility of renewing the intelligence sharing agreement with Japan during a National Security Council meeting this Thursday.
The General Security of Military Information Agreement or GSOMIA as it is commonly known is due for renewal by Saturday.
President Moon is likely to approve the NSC's decision regardless of whether to renew or withdraw from the deal.
Sources say the decision could be announced as soon as today.
If neither South Korea nor Japan declare their withdrawal by Saturday, the 90-day notice deadline,... the pact will be automatically renewed for another year.
South Korea has dangled the idea of possibly leaving GSOMIA since Japan accused Seoul illegally transferring chemical materials to North Korea,... one of the reasons Tokyo gave for imposing exports curbs on South Korea.
