Connecticut river surges after heavy rain strikes Tri-state area

A river in southeastern Connecticut remained flooded on Thursday, September 27, following a bout of heavy rain the day before.

This video, Billy Kenny, shows the strong currents of the swollen Yantic River resembling that of a raging waterfall. The video was filmed at Uncas Leap in Norwich.

Rising waters forced town officials to delay schools and close some roads due to flooding. Local media reported that the river reached its sixth highest crest since its recorded history.

The rains prompted a slew of dramatic rescues and school delays across parts of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York as water levels rose. In Fairview, New Jersey, 100 people were evacuated to safety on Tuesday after floodwaters surrounded the area.
