Typhoon Ompong hits the northern tip of the Philippines

This was the terrifying scene as Typhoon Ompong hit the northern part of the Philippines on Friday morning.

Footage showed the deadly super-typhoon battering trees and pounding rain on the village of Aparri in the province of Cagayan.

Residents were bracing themselves as the epicentre of the storm was expected to hit early Saturday morning.

Thousands of people have already been evacuated.
