Tropical Storm Sanba, known locally as Basyang, made landfall in Surigao del Sur province, Caraga region, on the Philippine island of Mindanao on Tuesday, February 13, bringing flooding, high winds, and causing deadly landslides, reports said.The storm weakened to a tropical depression as it made landfall at around 9am, but not before it dumped heavy rain across several areas, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.In Surigao City, just north of Surigao del Sur province, floods left cars and homes partially submerged, as this footage shows.In Carrascal, about 35 miles south-east of Surigao City in Caraga, heavy rainfall caused a landslide that killed members of the same family, the Manila Times reported. The same report said a woman drowned when strong currents dragged her away in a canal about 10 miles south of Surigao City, in Surigao del Norte, and that a baby died when a landslide hit his or her home in Albuera, on the island of Leyte, north of Mindanao.Authorities said 528 families, or 1,829 people, had been displaced by the storm in Caraga region.The national disaster council said later on Tuesday that though the storm had slowed, more rain could be expected over the next 24 hours and that flooding and landslides remained a threat across several regions.
