AHORE: The head of the joint investigation team (JIT) constituted to carry out probe into the rape and murder of 7-year-old Zainab was changed on Friday at the request of her father.

Regional police officer (RPO) Multan Muhammad Idrees was appointed as new head of the probe team.

The heartbroken father of Zainab, Ameen Ansari, had raised objection on the head of the JIT formed to probe the horrific incident that outraged the entire nation.

Addressing a press conference, Ameen demanded that he didn’t have trust in the head of the JIT, and therefore, he should be changed.

On Wednesday, protests erupted in Kasur after the minor, who was kidnapped, was found raped, dead and buried in garbage.

The girl’s rape and murder sparked widespread outrage as the people from all social strata deplored the incident as horrific, demanding #JusticeForZainab.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting, announced a Rs 10 million reward for those who would help identify the killer of Zainab.

The protests turned violent on Wednesday when police personnel opened fire on hundreds of protesters, outside DC Office, killing two people.
