A powerful typhoon is heading towards central Philippines as authorities issued warnings of destruction later on Sunday. The typhoon, equivalent to that of a category 2 hurricane, is known as Nock-ten or Nina by locals. Winds have intensified to about 53 miles per hour with gusts up to 115 miles per hour. In 2013, more than 6,000 people were killed when Typhoon Haiyan hit the central islands of Leyte and Samar.
